Sacrococcygeal teratoma is true neoplasm composed of components of more than two dermal tissues.
It¢¥s origin is thought to be from totipotentiol cell but true etiology is unknown. It is more prevalent in female and easily recognized by it¢¥s position. Delay in operative treatment enhances it¢¥s malignant potential and early surgery is potentially curable.
It is rare congenital neoplasm it¢¥s incidence being one in 40,000 live birth.
Most common symptom is mass itself. Other symptoms are related to pressure effect. Operative approach is variable but posterior approach is most commonly used.
Sometimes transverse chevron incision or double-y incision is utilized aid -combined abdo-minal and sacral approach is also used for very large tumor.
Operative mortality and long term survival are best at early operation. Overall survival rate is about 85%.
